how it works · the next step

I hand you a problem, not a lecture.

the next step is a guided climb I lay out after watching you try. the problem comes first, always. content only loads when you have earned it, by missing something specific. I skip what you already know and I linger where you do not. the map is honest about both.

today I hand you a problem, not a lecture.
a circle: x² + y² = 25. find dy/dx at the point (3, 4), without solving for y first.
show your work. I watch the approach.
I'm stuck

last time you solved for y. the short way is hiding in the question.

how the next step works

your next step reshapes every time you climb. that is the point. it is built around you, not around a syllabus.

  1. 1
you get a challenge, not a chapter
every node opens with a task. you attempt it before anything is explained. I am reading your approach, not just the answer.
  2. 2
    I diagnose the exact miss
wrong is useful. I name the specific thing that tripped you, then hand you a different problem on the same idea. not the same one again.
  3. 3
it moves into the good ink
when you can do it in more than one context, the concept goes solid on your map. that is the only thing that counts as known here.
  4. 4
it comes back before you forget
a week later the concept returns as a warm-up, in a new disguise. spacing is built into the climb, not bolted on as review.
  5. 5
    the map stays honest
demonstrated, developing, fading, unmapped. no percentage that lies. you always see where you actually stand, including the gaps.
what the next step refuses to do
  • no lecture before the attempt. the struggle is where the learning is.
  • no completion bar. ninety percent done means nothing if you cannot do the thing.
  • no busywork on what you already proved. your time is not free.

I hand you a problem, not a lecture.
